Venting Required for Roof Over Finished Garage?

Is an exhaust vent required for a roof over a finished garage?

  • The roof has soffit venting
  • Ice and water shield was used as the underlayment on the entire roof (not just edges), which from what I’ve read makes proper ventilation very important as the ice and water acts as a membrane.

There’s a lot of misperceptions about ventilation. The primary purpose is to continuously replace the stale, moist air in the Attic. If you have a closed off Attic above the garage, you should ventilated it. If the garage Attic is open/connected to the house Attic and the ridge on the house is at a higher elevation, no.
